The night before our girls go back to school we have a "Back to School" dinner, complete with sparking cider, fancy table linens and the good china. We prepare their favorite meal (this year Baby G. requested meatloaf and mashed potatoes -- again) and we toast to the new school year. As part of the celebration, I make each girl a KinderCone (a German tradition for the first year of school) and give it to her during her "Back to School" dinner.
Baby G. is growing up, so this year's KinderCone featured black/white and pink:
I pulled all of the paper off of last year's KinderCone (no need to buy a new one!) and re-papered it with gift wrap I purchased at Target at last year's post-Christmas sale. I did get a little lazy and I reused the bow from last year's KinderCone:
This year's KinderCone was filled with Lego minifigurines, craft supplies and, of course, every 2nd grader needs a good knock-knock book:
Hubby and I both want to stress the importance of education to our girls. Traditions like the "Back to School" dinner and the KinderCone help us reinforce the idea that school is a pretty big deal.
I still have a week before Baby A. heads back to pre-school. She will have her own "Back to School" dinner. I guess I better get off my bum and start her KinderCone!
