Alexandria, VA Scrapbooking Classes

If you're in the Alexandria, VA area, you might want to take advantage of some local scrapbooking classes.  Reader Suzie P. filled me in on a great opportunity offered by the Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities.  They are currently offering two classes:

Scrapbooking I: Scrapbooking for Beginners

Do you have loads of pictures in boxes and are not sure what to do with them? Scrapbooking for Beginners will help you get those pictures out of boxes and will teach you how to creatively display those memories. This class is for those with no knowledge of scrapbooking. We will cover topics such as scrapbooking basics, tools of the trade, color theory, cropping, matting, layout design, journaling and embellishments. Tools required for class: 12 x 12 Paper Trimmer, Micro tip scissors (straight edge), Acid Free Adhesive, Black Archival Pen, ruler, pencil, and eraser. All other materials will be provided.

Date: Wednesdays, 9/19 — 10/24, 7:30 — 9 pm
Fee: $102 for six 90 minute classes

Scrapbooking II : Intermediate Scrapbooking Techniques

Are you a scrapbooker looking for new and different ideas? Do want to learn some new techniques? This class will cover such topics as color theory, attachments, hardware store finds, using acrylic, and more. This class is for those who have taken Scrapbooking for Beginners or have a general knowledge of scrapbooking. We will complete several projects throughout the class. Tools required for class: 12 x 12 Paper Trimmer, Micro tip scissors (straight edge), Acid Free Adhesive, Black Archival Pen, bone folder, craft knife, ruler, pencil, and eraser. All other materials will be provided.

Date: Wednesdays, 11/7 — 12/19  (No Class 11/21), 7:30 — 9 pm
Fee: $112 for six 90 minute classes

According to Suzie, they will be adding additional Winter classes and a couple of one-day special classes.  Students may register by phone at 703-519-3493 or in person at the Durant Center.

When you break up the costs, you're paying between $17 and $19 a class.  Not too shabby.  This sounds like a great opportunity for somebody wanting to try scrapbooking or somebody who wants to add to their scrapbooking knowledge.  Enjoy!
