Wow!! I opened my e-mail this morning to find a flood of e-mails about my stamp storage! There were a ton of e-mails asking for more details about the crates. Since it is STILL RAINING off & on, I haven't finished painting my remaining crates, so it made it easy to take pictures.
To create the shelf, two 1/4" dowels are placed 5" apart horizontally. My hubby drilled holes, then glued the dowels in places, sanding the excess off the sides. It doesn't really need to be pretty if you're going to paint them like I did.
The next row of shelves will be placed two inches below the previous row. You should be able to fit 7 rows in each crate. Eight 8.5" x 11" drawers will fit in each crate.
Hope that helps!!
What an impressive and well-thought-out storage system, Korie! While I don't have that many stamps, I have been using the acrylic frames as trays, with one addition. On a regular sheet of 8.5x11" paper that fits in the bottom of the tray, I stamp each image for easy reference and to preserve the overall arrangement in the tray. And instead of helpful-husband tailored shelves, I use shoe rack shelves, which at least keep the tray-stacking to a minimum. But now that I see your stamp collection in all its glory, I'm delighted to imagine how I can expand mine!

Because of you, I went to Michael's last night and spend a good chunk of change on acrylic frames. Now I'm finding I have more space for stamps. So now I must buy more stamps. Thanks a lot! Poverty here I come!

I've been living in denial about the number of wood block stamps I own. I keep saying I don't have very many. I think I have enough to fill at least one crate. Hmmmm....

I love your stamp storage idea!! My question is - does the frame come in 2 parts, and if so, do you use each part individually, or do you enclose it in the frame? I'll check out the frames... TFS!
Added by Korie B: The frame has an acrylic box (missing the back) and a cardboard insert. Throw the cardboard insert away & just use the acrylic box.

that seems easy to build it into the crate. I might have to do it myself. see if i can get my stamps under control like this. I love this idea.

Hobby Lobby has their acrylic box frames 50 % off this week. I ordered and prepaid for 25 of them. That made them $2.50 each!

Thanks for the great idea! I made 3 of these last weekend. It's a great way to keep all the lucite trays I've been using. Instead of a stampalog, I used my scanner and just scanned a picture of the stamps in each tray. Then I used the scans to make an "index book" so I can browse my stamps and then see what tray they're in.
