Where I'm From

Where I'm From

I am from sweet suburbia; from Toughskins and Betty Crocker and green bean casseroles. From Love Boat and biting your nails and chasing the ice cream man on your bike.

I am from Disneyland and Nancy Drew and Harriet the Spy and "We love you Mrs. Hannigan!" From "Fer Sure" and "Totally" and hanging out at the mall with my $5.00 allowance (which I'll probably spend on a book).

I am from pancake breakfasts at the Lodge and selling Girl Scout cookies and swim meets and piano lessons.

I am from manicured lawns and rock gardens and dad mowing the lawn on a Sunday with a headband keeping the sweat out of his eyes.

I am from the saguaro and the sagebrush, the climbing bougainvillea and sweet smell of creosote after a desert rain.

I am from 4th of July parties and pool parties and parties for no reason whatsoever. From sitting at the kitchen counter with a glass of wine and talking late into the night.

I am from crazy grandmothers and people who hoard things in closets and keep every issue of Readers Digest ever printed.

I am from revealing family secrets over the Thanksgiving table and laughing until your cheeks hurt. I am from people who can wow crowds at weddings with their dancing.

I am from "you won’t know until you’ve tried it” and “as long as you give it your best”. From eat everything on your plate and chew with your mouth closed and keep your elbows off the table.

I am from beach sand and desert flowers. From warm summer nights and winters where you can wear shorts, from a pool in every backyard.

I am from a gracious hostess who can serve up appetizers for fifty with a grandbaby on her hip and a phone in one hand, from a man who taught me that I can do anything as long as I “put my mind to it.”

I am from hugs and long standing jokes and a small family within a large family.

This... This is where I'm from.

Join me in creating a beautiful journal detailing where you're from. Our class will start with a journaling exercise and then we'll use brand spankin' new Teresa Collins products (along with some of my favorite Daisy D's papers and a fantastic Maya Road book) as we put together an amazing book filled with the details of your life.

Please note that although we will build the structure of this book & complete the journaling project in class, students will finish the remainder of the book in their own time.

Class Fee: $38.00
Class Date: Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Berkeley Springs, WV
