It is with extreme delight that I announce that Marirosa Anderson (of Photography by Marirosa) will be teaching a hands-on photography course during August's "Summer in Paris" retreat.
Many of you may know Marirosa through the D.C. area's best scrapbook event company Get Croppin', which she co-founded back in 2003. Or, you may remember her from Virginia's Artfully Scribed store. Or, maybe you read about her work with "Now I Lay me Down To Sleep" in Newsweek magazine. Or, you may recognize the name because I mention her constantly as my go-to family photographer (check out the pics she took of my kids Baby A. and Baby G. or my maternity shots).
Although she's always had an interest in photography, her love of capturing the every day really took off when her children were born and she realized that she didn't want to miss a single moment. Several years ago, she began building her skills by photographing friends and family. She slowly began expanding her business, focusing on creativity and style. Her signature style of taking "real life" shots -- not posed -- has earned her numerous awards and given her the opportunity to work with the Lincoln Theater, Washington Ballet and Maya Angelou's See Forever Foundation. Her "cottage business" has grown into a full-fledged career and her company, Photography by Marirosa, is now a favorite with expectant moms, new parents, brides and families.
Marirosa's "Summer in Paris" class will focus on everyday photography through a professional's eye. You won't be bogged down with the technical aspects, but instead will learn tips & tricks to make your photos better. Fancy digital SLRs are not required, as her hands-on approach will teach you how to use any digital camera to take great photos. All students will be required to bring a digital camera (a point & shoot will do!).
Marirosa visited Paris last July & e-mailed me this shot, saying that she simply fell in love with the beautiful city and that the photo opportunities were endless:

Yay. I'm excited about this class. I hope to get a spot!
